FAQ's

Will Counselling be able to help me?

I believe that counselling can support anyone who is seeking real change, even if they are not yet sure what that change might look like. You may come feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or with a quiet sense that something isn’t quite right. Counselling offers a compassionate and supportive space to slow down, reflect, and begin to make sense of your experience.

In our early sessions, we will gently explore what has brought you to counselling and what you hope to gain from it. Together, we can identify aims that feel meaningful to you and notice changes as they unfold over time.

Counselling is not about being given advice or told what to do. It is a collaborative process that supports deeper self-understanding and helps you reconnect with your own inner resources and ways forward. Depending on your needs, therapy may be short-term or longer-term, and this can be discussed and reviewed together.

What happens in the sessions?

Sessions are where you can speak freely without fear of being overheard, interrupted or judged. Each session is a chance to pause from the demands of everyday life and focus on what feels important for you.

We may talk about your life experiences, emotions, relationships, patterns of thinking, or ways you respond to challenges. I will listen with care and compassion, offering support and understanding, while also gently encouraging reflection and new perspectives when this feels helpful.

Counselling is not about being given advice or told what to do. It is a collaborative process that supports you to understand yourself more deeply, recognise your own strengths and find ways forward that feel right for you, working towards a life that you strive for.

How do I know if you’re the right counsellor for me?

I understand that choosing a counsellor can feel overwhelming, particularly at difficult times. You are welcome to contact me for an informal chat before making a decision. There is no obligation to proceed and you are free to take time to decide what feels right. If I’m not the right fit, I will do my best to help you find appropriate support.

How many sessions will I need?

This can be different for everyone, and there is no set timeframe. You are always in control of how often we meet, how many sessions you have, and when you feel ready to stop. We can review this together as we go, depending on what feels right for you.

Frequency of sessions can be arranged to what is best for you. Generally sessions are weekly or fortnightly. If you would like ad hoc sessions, this can also be discussed.

What is a counselling contract?

At the beginning of our work together, we will agree a therapeutic contract. This is a clear and supportive agreement that outlines how we will work together in both online and in-person counselling. It includes information about confidentiality and its limits, session structure, fees, cancellations, boundaries and my professional responsibilities. The contract is designed to provide clarity, consistency, and a safe framework for our therapeutic work.

What is your cancellation policy?

I request at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellation, otherwise there will still be a full charge for the session.

How do I pay?
You can pay by either BACS or cash.

What are the facilities like?

Sessions take place in a ground-floor counselling room. There is one step up into the property and one step down into the room. Toilet facilities are available for clients and parking is provided on the driveway outside the property. If you have any access needs or questions, please feel free to get in touch before your appointment.
